Poinpy Beginner Tips, Best Gear and Growing Golden Seeds

Poinpy is the latest game from Downwell creator Ojiro Fumoto and it was recently announced and released on Netflix’s mobile gaming platform. Similar to Downwell, Poinpy is an absolutely adorable yet challenging puzzle platformer. You control a small dinosaur to gather fruit/recipe combinations to feed a giant feline monster behind your literal tail.

Poinpy has surprising depth with different strategies, upgrades, and mechanics right off the bat. Increasing ranks adds more gear slots, additional jump orbs, and golden seeds to use to unlock new gear.

Check out our top tips and improvements for Fumoto’s new game below.

Upgrades and Equipment

To the left and right of the main room are the equipment room and the puzzle room respectively. These can both be easily missed as the game encourages you to start another round immediately on every restart. The equipment room on the left allows you to play a capsule mini-game with golden seeds collected from lemons. The cost of the Capsule Machine (which unlocks new equipment) increases with each use.

Be sure to use the Capsule Machine whenever you have enough Golden Seeds, as they aren’t used for anything else. No need to hesitate to save for something else in the end, since the Equipment is its only function.

Best Equipment

Although each use of the capsule machine gives you three options, some are better than others. Poinpy allows the player to choose their own type of gear assortment by easily swapping to try different approaches. For example, you can use a set with more jump assist/verticality, or another combination that spawns more fruit to make it easier to complete the recipe.

The top three gear to get, when they spawn in the rotation, are Jumpy Boy, Prismer, and Voyager Rocket.

Jumpy Boy – Jumpy Boy adds an extra orb! A good boy who helps you by adding an extra jump.

At first, it may take time to increase your rank to earn more jump orbs. Jump orbs offer more chances to complete recipes and, most importantly, to continue races for much longer. Additional jump orbs are awarded at ranks five and 10. But having Jumpy Boy gives you an additional jump which is useful in earlier ranks, especially due to the additional gear slots not yet unlocked. Even when you only have one or two gear slots, Jumpy Boy is the perfect gear to add to the others.

Prism – After defeating an enemy, your next wall collision will always be a wall bounce.

Prism adds increased wall bounce angle in addition to power. Prism is great for forgiving an extra oomf after one of your wall bounces. You can use a wall bounce after defeating an enemy to save a jump orb until Poinpy’s wall bounce is complete. With Prismer, you’ll often come to a relaxing/seamless opportunity/combo where a wall bounce leads to pot destruction, then a wall bounce, then a pot, and so on. This kind of combo earns Jump Orbs, raising you higher in the level without having to slide for a little while.

Voyager Rocket – Voyager Rocket lets you shoot with more power! Combined with Prism, they can in tandem take you to even greater heights, perhaps even propel you into space among the stars.

These three different pieces of equipment provided an innate advantage throughout each run over the others. If you ever see any, be sure to collect them from the Capsule Machine.

Harvest and Sow – How to Grow Golden Seeds

Gold Seeds allow you to use the Capsule Machine, and there are ways to increase the number of Gold Seeds collected in each playthrough. Sometimes you’ll want to upgrade to a gear build focused on getting golden seeds to unlock more gear options. There are two equipment just for this purpose: Gold Card and Fox Savings.

Gold Card – When collecting Shiny Fruit you will receive extra golden seeds – why not triple that amount when collecting Shiny Fruit? Gold Card does it easily.

Fox Savings will grant you one, five, or 20 Golden Seeds on every pot you crush. As you enter each area, you will move from pot to pot, so each of these pots has a chance to grant 20 Golden Seeds. Even though you only gain one golden seed from each pot, it adds up over time.

Combining Gold Card with Fox Savings will allow you to have a Golden Seed farming focused build. Fox Savings greatly increases your Golden Seed accumulation. Using this build lets you use the upgrade room more often to get Jumpy Boy, Prismer, and Voyager Rocket if you don’t already have them.

Fox Savings – Combining Fox Savings with Pot Form will allow more pots to spawn, and with more pots emerging – even more Golden Seeds with Fox Savings.

Perplexing Poinpy Puzzles

The puzzle room in the right room before a race allows you to solve puzzles. You will need at least four Jumpy Orbs to reach the switch at the top to unlock Puzzle Mode. The first time you complete each puzzle it will grant a set amount of Golden Seeds with higher puzzle levels increasing the Golden Seeds earned.

You need to reach each area of the main game to unlock the next set of 5 puzzles, but the Golden Seeds rewards at the end of a puzzle help to get more use out of the capsule machine, especially in the beginning.

General tips

  • Switch between constructions that level you up in new areas of the game and farm Golden Seeds every few runs.
  • When working on a recipe at lower gourmet levels such as gourmet level 1, keep getting bonus fruits for huge multipliers. You want to get as many bonus fruits as possible, and getting around 60 fruits on the easiest starter recipes will skyrocket you to Gourmet level 20 without having to do harder recipes such as those that punish you for collecting some fruit.
  • Being inside a bubble allows Poinpy to take a free hit from an enemy if they collide with you.
  • As long as your stomp hits something, you will return to where you were. With that in mind, you have to stomp huge heights on enemies or pots. Regular spring gear even allows the stomp after landing on enemies or pots to be higher than your starting stomp position.
  • Complete recipes early if you find yourself in a bad spot with no fruit nearby. Cash in your massive multiplayer bonus, if things get too hectic. Better to finish a finished recipe early than lose hearts, but still beat a low gastronomic level.
  • Messing up a recipe will make a different recipe available, so sometimes if you’re having trouble collecting a specific fruit that doesn’t appear often enough, grab a fruit that the recipe forbids to reset to a new recipe. The new recipe could be easier to make.
  • Hope these beginner tips have helped you or given you some new ideas to approach the Poinpy game!
