Sony has announced a new PlayStation State of Play airing next week, promising new announcements including games for the PSVR2. The event, which is expected to last approximately 30 minutes, will take place on Thursday, June 2 at 3:00 p.m. PT / 6:00 p.m. ET.
The announcement didn’t include many details about what the presentation will include. An accompanying PlayStation Blog post promised “exciting reveals from our third-party partners, as well as a look at several games in development for PlayStation VR2.” That could mean we won’t see any of Sony’s non-VR lineup. Journalist Jeff Grubb speculated that this could be where we see the debut of Street Fighter 6.
This event takes place in the midst of various other Not-E3 events, and more than a week before the Xbox competition and Bethesda Showcase. There’s no traditional E3 this year, but we’re seeing several publishers and platform holders announcing events that will take place in June regardless.
Sony has always said that its big 2022 game, God of War: Ragnarok, is still set to launch this year. This makes the potential absence of first-party games noticeable, but Sony could plan a separate event to show off its own games.
