Netflix Offers First Look at The Exceptional, Yoshitaka Amano’s Horror Suspense Anime


As part of Netflix Geeked Week, the streaming service released a set of five photos offering a first look at Exception, an upcoming horror anime from Yoshitaka Amano. The series is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2022, but no release date has yet been announced.

A brief synopsis for Exception reads: “In the distant future, human beings have been forced to leave Earth and migrate to another galaxy. An advanced team of starships arrives on a planet that is to be terraformed. Each member of the team is output by a biological 3D printer.” Check out all the new images below.

The series is based on a new story and screenplay by novelist and filmmaker Hirotaka Adachi (aka “Otsuichi”), and features character designs by Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano. Amano is the artist behind all of the major Final Fantasy game logos. Yūzō Satō is directing the series, and Bakken Record and 5 Inc. are producing the anime.

More information on the show’s total episode count, cast, and more will be announced at a later date.
