Jamie Lee Curtis joins the Haunted Mansion movie as Madame Leota

The upcoming Haunted Mansion live-action movie directed by Justin Simien has found its Madame Leota with the head of Jamie Lee Curtis. Joining Curtis will be LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson and Danny DeVito.

This will be the second live-action adaptation of Disney’s world-famous attraction, the first being back in 2003 starring Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Tilly as Leota. In Disney lore, Leota is a Roma fortune teller and street magician in 19th-century New Orleans. After Leota’s death, her spirit haunted the mansion in a crystal ball as the estate’s resident medium who used her spells to materialize the house’s 999 “happy meals”.

Curtis apparently confirmed the report on her instagram, only posting a crystal ball emoji. Leota was originally voiced by Imagineer Leota Toombs, after whom she is named, while Eleanor Audley (the original Maleficent and Lady Tremaine) provided her voice.

In the remake, Rosario Dawson, who plays a doctor, and her 9-year-old son (Chase Dillon), seek to start a new life and move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans. Quickly realizing that the mansion is indeed haunted, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, seeks help from a widowed scientist-turned-failed paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic ( Haddish) and a grumpy historian. (DeVito).

The Haunted Mansion is set to hit theaters next year.
