Friday ‘Nite: Three mysteries introduced in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 3

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 is all about good vibes and celebrating the seeming defeat of the Imagined Order, as we saw in the Chapter 3, Season 2 finale, Collision. Right out of the gate, the island took on a whole new vibe. The party atmosphere is a new look for the island, which is so often under duress that loopers may not know what to do with themselves this season – take our suggestion: ride the roller coaster.

Although it’s just fun and games for now, don’t expect it to last. Thanks to the teases of the final event, as well as the introduction of the new season, it looks like we already have quite a few things to worry about for the foreseeable future. Get this roller coaster ride now; it may not be long for the island. Here are three new mysteries in Fortnite that are keeping players up at night.

Is Slone dead?

I could almost answer this one with one word – “no” – because I firmly believe it is not. I think it’s partly because she’s the best and I don’t want her to go away. But more importantly, a look closely to the sequence of events leading up to her supposed death suggests that she may have narrowly escaped. Therefore, I find that the most interesting mystery is not whether she survived, but how will she resurface?

It feels like Epic puts the imagined order in the rear view, like a comic arc that ends and sends the superhero down another path as he bumps into a new enemy (which we’ll get to in a bit) . I tend to anticipate that the IO, or at least Slone, will return to the island soon. Will she be reformed, brought down, or perhaps just as determined to seize power as ever before?

Who – or what – is Geno, really?

After years of rumors and names, we finally caught a glimpse of Geno (pronounced “jen-oh”) in the Season 2 finale event. We learned that he is the true leader of IO, not Slone. – which I and others have theorized – but that simple fact did little to clarify anything because the glimpse we got of him only made things more confusing. He didn’t appear human, but he also didn’t look exactly like any of the alien characters we’ve seen before, such as The Origin or the Cube Queen. Is he part of a new, unpublished race? Does he even have a physical body, or is he maybe some kind of computer program? If it’s him we see Slone talking to in his reveal loading screen, it’s odd that his first two scenes in the game come in the form of holograms.

Bonus question: Does anyone care that the zero point is somehow... floating there?
Bonus question: Does anyone care that the zero point is somehow… floating there?

This ranks as one of the oldest mysteries in gaming, so don’t expect an answer here for a year or two, perhaps not until Chapter 4, which is currently slated to arrive in December 2023.

Who is the flowery spectator watching over the island?

With Slone out of the picture (for now anyway), the story needs a new Big Bad. Epic may hint at this character at the end of the Chapter 3, Season 3 trailer (embedded above). While the mysterious figure does not yet have an official name, popular theorist, Akkotook to calling her Bloomwatcher, given that she watched over the island and looked like Bloomthe alien wildlife character that somehow looks like an outworlder bushranger.

This is the biggest mystery of all, in my opinion, because fan theories are everywhere. A important theory says Bloomwatcher is actually the Cube Queen, who appeared to drown at the end of Chapter 2 when the island flipped over and crushed her below. Their proof: they look alike, with both figures having pink hair (or some hair-like stuff anyway), both have striking blue eyes, and one could argue that Bloomwatcher looks like a mix of coral and orange. algae, as the Cube Queen somehow transformed into this hybrid, alien-looking ocean creature upon her disappearance.

Is this snap meant to be symbolic or is Bloomwatcher literally watching over Reality Zero (Fortnite Island) in some way?
Is this snap meant to be symbolic or is Bloomwatcher literally watching over Reality Zero (Fortnite Island) in some way?

There are a lot of holes in this theory though, namely that the character already seems to have a better fitting origin story, as Ako recounts. According to them, the Bloomwatcher may be from where Bloom comes from, which in the game is described as “a mysterious forest”. It seems that the new location, Reality Falls, is actually that same forest that now spans the island, perhaps on purpose.

We also know from in-game details on Bloom’s cosmetic set that he is a “Pluxarian”, which appears to be the name of his alien race. Bloomwatcher may also be Pluxarian as the two characters resemble each other quite closely. It’s my theory that the Pluxarians were overrun by The Last Reality (the Cube Queen’s army, basically) as they colonized new universes. That was also her intention when she arrived at Reality Zero, to take over the Fortnite island – but she failed.

To put it all together, I believe Bloomwatcher is Pluxarian, its people have been overtaken by The Last Reality, and now that The Last Reality and the Cube Queen have been defeated, Bloomwatcher is adrift in the omniverse looking to re-establish itself on Fortnite Island. That would make her like Slone – a somewhat misunderstood and arguably tragic villain. She seems to have bad intentions given the trailer’s change in mood when she appears on screen, but as a survivor of violent colonization, she may be acting out of desperation as she stalks. lingers on (or somewhere on?) the island.

There’s so much more to learn, but this is my best theory-wise so far. Thanks to Ako and the other members of the Fortnite community, as always, for helping me understand the development of another dizzying story.
